We replaced the 50 year old window in the back room and the two in the attic… I can’t wait for the weather to perk up so I can open them! 🙂 I am disappointed, however, that the guys from window world did not “stand on” our windows” like they do in their commercial.. maybe the 10 degree weather outside had them in bitter mood?

My dad came a few weeks ago and helped us finish up a little bit of painting (okay A LOT of painting). We are so happy that he sacrificed a weekend to help us out– Thank you again for your help dad! With a paintbrush in one hand and a camera in the other, I snapped some pictures of the boys in action
Tackling “grand-pappy’s whiskey cabinet”
I finally convinced by dad that the mirrored cabinet, equipped with an orange light, and shelves for an old man’s liquor anchored in the corner of the room had to come down. Here are pictures of the guys pulling it off of the wall. PS: dad.. the cabinet is in the basement for you, right beside the 5 foot mirror that used to be above the fireplace
I have to throw a quick comment in about their matching black shirts… it made me giggle..
Now on to tackling the kitchen…

We couldn’t resist checking out the “great deals” that the furniture stores had to offer over the holidays. With our bedroom almost completed, our new furniture will be arriving soon. We tentatively set up a delivery date in February for the living room and dining room furniture to arrive.. it looks like we have a deadline to meet!

“Good painters remove or cover door hardware before they paint. the other kind of painter just slops it over any exposed metal and ruins the door’s appearance”. the previous owners of our home were the later. we were just left with the mess. fortunately, any knob, escutcheon plate, or hinge can be made to shine again. With paint stripper, a wire brush, a dremel, and a lot of patience my husband took on the challenge.

The weather was perfect this past weekend to catch up on some housework outside. Today’s project: Lets tackle our worn and weathered shutters! After staring at the house for nearly an hour, Sam and I finally decided to bite the bullet and head out for a can of paint. For some unknown reason, we convinced ourselves that gray would be the perfect color for our shutters. One shutter painted and we quickly tossed that color out the window after holding it up in comparison to the house. Who knew that one can of paint could make our house look 40 years older than it ALREADY is. Back to the drawing board. After spending more time staring at our house and contemplating the few color choices that our red roof had to offer, we returned to The Home Depot in hopes of finding the perfect color, once again.
Feeling the difference with bright, updated shutters we decided to also do the side of our house.
